What Works.
01
Every field has a name
Every text field, text area and choice on the site carries a name a screen reader can read out: a visible label joined to the field, a label wrapped around it, or a description where a visible label would not fit. The site draws no dropdowns. Choices are radio buttons, each inside its own label, in a group that carries its own name. This is held by a test that reads the source of every screen and fails if one field is added without a name.
02
Results are announced, not only drawn
When a form succeeds or fails, the message is placed in a region a screen reader watches, and that region exists on the page before the message arrives, which is what makes it announced rather than silently appearing. Every screen that sends something to the server and reports back is checked for this.
03
The keyboard reaches everything
A skip link at the top of every page jumps past the navigation to the main content. No element is given a position in the tab order that would take it out of reading order. Every photo chooser is reachable by keyboard, either directly or through a button, and the area around it shows where the focus is. No focus outline is removed without another one put in its place. The site has one dialog: the index, which holds the menu and the search. While it is open the focus stays inside it, the Escape key closes it, and the focus then goes back to where it was.
04
The active page says so
In the navigation rail and the mobile bar, the page you are on is marked as the current page in the markup, not only coloured differently. The same is true of the view tabs in the operations screens.
05
Nothing unavailable pretends otherwise
Where a feature is switched off, the screen says so in a sentence and shows no control for it. Earlier versions showed greyed-out buttons and empty fields whose placeholder text read "unavailable", which is a control for nothing and a message in the wrong place. Controls are now only disabled while their own request is in flight, and a test fails the build if that changes.
06
Status words say what happened
Every state a record can be in has one plain phrase, written once and used everywhere. A hold is described as a hold and not as a payment. A notification the provider accepted is described as accepted, not as delivered, because delivery to you is not something Carzitt can see. A state the system does not recognise reads "Status not recorded" rather than being guessed at.
07
Your entries survive a failure
If a submission is rejected, what you typed stays on the screen. If the connection drops and Carzitt cannot tell whether the request landed, it says exactly that, and tells you to check the list before submitting again rather than implying a retry is free. Where a request has an ID, retrying reuses it so nothing is created twice.
08
Reduced motion is respected
If your system is set to reduce motion, the loading shimmer and the spinners stop moving. They do not disappear: each one is paired with text that carries the same meaning, so nothing is lost by stopping the animation.
09
Measured in a browser
On 3 October 2026 a recorded browser run measured the twelve public pages (home, marketplace, pricing, community, clubs, support, quotes, sign-in, sign-up, privacy, terms and this page) of the redesigned site before it went live. Every text element on a solid background met a contrast of 4.5 to 1, or 3 to 1 for large text; the lowest for ordinary text was 5.25 to 1. No page scrolled sideways at a 320-pixel-wide window, at 200% zoom, or with text set to 200%. On a phone-sized screen every control standing on its own is at least 44 by 44 pixels, apart from the skip links, which stay hidden until the keyboard reaches them. Earlier passes that day found some form fields, breadcrumb links and answer choices under 44 pixels and some faded grey text below 4.5 to 1; all of it was fixed, each choice now shows when the keyboard is on it, and the run was repeated before this was written. Runs on the earlier design, on the live site on 1 and 2 October 2026, had already fixed grey text below the contrast line, a page too wide at 320 pixels, two pages overflowing at 200% text and two dozen small controls per page.
10
Not yet measured
Three things have not been checked and are not claimed. No screen has been driven end to end with a real screen reader. The checks above read the source of the site or measure it, which catches a missing name but cannot tell you how a screen sounds; that needs a person. The screens you only see when signed in (dashboard, orders, selling, operations) have not been measured at all. And text laid over a photo, such as the words over the car at the top of the home page, cannot be measured for contrast automatically, so it is unchecked.
11
How this page changes
A line moves out of "not yet measured" when a recorded run shows the result, not when someone believes it is fine. No external conformance level is claimed, because none has been assessed.
